COCCIDIUMS
The illness and treatment of the chinchilla of
coccidiums is in my view connected with many
circumstances.
Coccidiums are detectable on the basis of a
faeces-examination, with what to heeds is that
constantly is not excreted the oocysts and a
faeces-test over 3 days should be collected!
It is possible for the oocysts, under circumstances favorable for them, to survive
for up to ten years outside the animal!
Coccidiums are parasites, which take root in
the animal, from the animal sponges and
executes their reproduction in the animal
The especially unpleasant thing about this
illness is that the oocysts are surrounded with a
hard, gluey coat, which the hygiene-measures
particularly holds up. Oocysts of the coccidiums
are only destroyed with one single disinfecting
agent (cresol), or through burn out. If the
hygiene and disinfection isn't taken seriously
enough re-contraction remains a high risk!
For hygiene reasons, disinfecting the complete
exercise-space and during the treatment-time,
not to offer the chinchillas any exercise is to be advised, since the oocysts are scattered again
otherwise. Wood can't be treated with Cresol
and either must cauterized, or de-provide
becomes, at wood-grounds, a cautery is not
possible, as well carpet floorings - in the wood
base-crannies and in the carpet-fibers, is being
attached of the oocysts especially supported, I
recommend to put a plastic-metal leaf under
the cage, this also should with again bought
animals in the quarantine already is handled.
The coccidiums IN THE animal are with a
corresponding antiparasitika and, to treat
intestinal flora-building addition well, is it
however treatment of the surroundings, the
cage and its installation, which must be freed
from the oocysts, at least exact so to advise
urgently. Since the animal takes the oocysts
like the giardien again on, and these multiply
in the animal!
The risk of contraction of the illness is very
high for the other chinchillas in the cage, and
cleaning materials should not used for all cages, and this is the same for the same sand-strainer, cloths, or vacuum cleaners! Coccidiums are not
infectious for human beings!
For safety, a coccidium-treatment should also
happen six months later
